FAQ

Straight answers on cutout, materials, fit, shipping, and ordering — for joiners, architects, and anyone specifying a 60 mm cable entry.

What desk cutout do Plinko Design cable grommets need?

A standard 60 mm cutout. The barrel OD is 59.5 mm, so the outer drops in cleanly on a desk or benchtop bored to 60 mm. Flange OD is 65.5 mm; cable pass-through (ID) is 53.5 mm.

Are they solid brass and aluminium, or plated?

Solid metal throughout — not plated zinc, not plastic. Brass and aged brass are machined from solid brass stock; aluminium from solid aluminium. Polished brass faces are smooth; brass will take a quieter patina with use. Aged brass is the same solid metal with an intentional deeper patina — not antique brass plating on zinc.

How does the two-part drop-in fit work?

Each grommet is two machined parts: a flanged outer that sits in the cutout, and a removable inner insert with a cable slot. Lift the insert to pass plugs through, then drop it back. No screws, clips, or multi-part extrusion — drop-in only.

What is the height under the flange?

18 mm under the flange (overall height including the 2 mm flange). Barrel depth below the flange is 16 mm. Check clearance under the desk or benchtop before you order.

Do you ship in Australia and internationally?

Yes. Packed in Melbourne; postage is calculated at checkout from destination and quantity. Domestic AU usually ships within 1–3 business days. International orders ship DDU — duties, import GST, VAT, and US customs charges are extra and collected by local customs. We never ship DDP.

Can joiners and architects order one-offs and volume?

Yes. Buy one piece from the shop, or larger runs for a project. Trade 10% off list for approved ABN accounts — apply via Trade, or contact us with your ABN before ordering. For destinations or quantities we do not list online, email us.

What is the sample pair?

One brass and one aluminium 60 mm cable entry at $290 AUD ($50 under buying both separately), so you can experience both finishes before a project. Order from the Sample pair page in the shop.

Should I choose brass, aged brass, or aluminium?

Same machining and 60 mm drop-in fit; different metal or finish. Polished brass ($195 AUD) is warmer and develops a quieter patina over time. Aged brass ($215 AUD) is the same solid brass with an intentional antique brass patina from day one — the look people often mean when they search for an antique brass cable grommet or antique brass desk grommet, without plated zinc. Aluminium ($145 AUD) is lighter visually and stays cooler in tone. Many desks take aluminium; brass or aged brass suit timber that wants warmer hardware. The sample pair (polished brass + aluminium) is the surest way to compare the two base metals.

What is aged brass versus antique brass?

Our aged brass cable grommet is solid brass, intentionally aged for a deeper patina. Search traffic often uses antique brass cable grommet or antique brass desk grommet for that warm, darkened look — but many retail antique brass grommets are plated zinc. Plinko ages the solid metal itself. Same two-part 60 mm cable entry as polished brass and aluminium.
